I've used LICK on the 2012 Windows 8 ASUS, 2001 Sony VAIO XP Home Edition, and the early 2000s XP Home Edition Dell. It has given new life to those two antiques, especially for safe online activity (Puppy Linux 5.2.5 Lucid). However, be aware that certain distros of Puppy Linux may not work on certain computers. LICK is a free program to install Linux from Windows without burning a CD or using a USB. It is as simple as installing and running LICK, selecting a Linux ISO image, and clicking install. A few seconds later, you can reboot into Linux. Currently only Puppy Linux-based distributions are supported. Put Lucid Puppy on USB Flash Drive from Windows Put Lucid Puppy on a USB Flash Drive in Windows. In the following section I will show you one way to put Lucid Puppy 'Lupu' on a USB Flash Drive from within Windows by using our Universal USB Installer. Assume your PC is running any version of Windows 95 to 7, and can run Puppy from the live CD or with another measure. And you want to boot Puppy off from your hard disk drive. The version of the Puppy can be any 4.x or 5.x or their derivatives. Jan 02, 2019 Puppy Linux is a lightweight open source and free operating system that can be booted from or installed on a USB drive/pen drive. And because of its lightweight, many people want to install the Puppy Linux on their old Laptop or PC but unfortunately, most of.
So I am brand new to Linux and trying to get away from Windows forever. At the moment I have to keep Windows7 for a few apps but long term I want to go Linux and never look back. If only I had a dollar for all the minutes of my life I've waited for windows to boot up or shut down...what a waste.
Currently I have an old 2009ish eeePC netbook which I think has the following specs:
What I'd like to do is multi-boot Windows 7, Lubuntu 15.04 'Vivid Vervet' w/LXDE and Linux Puppy Tahrpup, which uses Ubuntu 14.04 LTS Trusty Tahr. Need to compare Lubuntu and Puppy performance for web browsing, You Tube, Google Docs, Libre and Gimp.
I know how to create a live linux usb bootable thumb drive using the Lili and Yumi tools. I'm pretty sure I know how to shrink drives and create primary, logical and swap partitions via Gparted (even though I haven't actually done this). Also pretty sure I can install Ubuntu from the bootable usb after partitioning via Gparted.
What I am unsure of is how to set up the partitions for the Puppy Linux install. I assume that both the Windows and Lubuntu partitions would be designated as Primary (is that correct?). I would like to create swap and home partitions but do I need to create separate swap and home partitions (one each), for both Lubuntu and Puppy? I'd like to have a single home and swap partition for both Lubuntu and Puppy to maximize disk space and keep working files if I delete an OS.
Also with respect the Puppy Tahr install, does the Puppy partition need to be a primary partition as well or logical? Would Windows 7 be /dev/sda1, Lubuntu be /dev/sda2 and Puppy be /dev/sda3?
How do I set it up so that I can choose between Windows, Lubuntu and Puppy Tahr OS? Will there be a grub boot file and if so which partition will it be on? How is that file set up to load on boot and then point to the boot sector or bootloader of the OS that you choose?
Thanks.

First, OS system partition obviously set as primary partition, not logical. Before install other OS, make sure to have free space partition for your Linux. And to install linux (in your case Lubuntu), all you need is 2 partition, one partition for '/' or you can call it 'root' partition (15GB is more than enough for me, or you can specify yourself), and swap partition (it's like virtual memory reserved to help reduce RAM usage). And many said that you have to set your 'swap' partition twice as your RAM size. You have 1GB RAM, so 'swap' partition should be 2GB.
Goes same with the other Linux (in your case Puppy Tahrpup), but you don't need to create 'swap' partition, because it will automatically detect 'swap' partition you've installed before.
So, you will need +/- 32GB free space for your Linuxes.
Lubuntu /root 15GB and swap 2GB
Puppy Tahrpup /root 15GB
For quite easy installation instruction, see this article.
If you're facing grub problem with multi boot, see this article.
Read those article first to prepare yourself about everything. Just do, Linux is fun, don't scare. :)
